If you thought Washington Irving only wrote "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and other tales of Tarrytown, N.Y., guess again. I was originally drawn to this story by Nelson DeMille when he casually mentioned it in the course of his novel, "Plum Island," which was one of his best. This particular tale, however, deals with "shiver-me-timbers" pirates and with a novel twist. It is not about raiding on the high seas, but rather, raiding the minds of common citizens. It is a story of New York when first settled by the Dutch and when visited by a mysterious pirate. The tale is entertaining, humorous, and different from what might otherwise be expected. Also, the written language is archaic, but not distracting. The print size of the publication, though, nearly overwhelmed me. Nonetheless, it is a most delightful adventure.Product details
